Yulia is from Russia and lives in Switzerland since high school. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management and decided to do a Master of Science with concentration in marketing in order to broaden her horizons and start her career with different angles in mind.
Could you describe your Master’s program?
The MBU MSc is a great opportunity for me to obtain the business experience which will help me in my future career. The teachers are strongly experienced and give us real life experience examples as opposed to just book-based knowledge. They treat us as future professionals rather than just students, they listen to us and our point of view. In my Bachelor’s degree I was studying only the theoretical knowledge, at MBU there is a real exchange of ideas and concrete examples.
Who are the participants to your Master’s program?
I feel very lucky because there are a lot of nationalities mingled in my MSc class – German, Colombian, Albanian, Iranian etc. – with completely different cultures, experiences and languages. This also allows us to study the same case but from different angles. There is a very friendly atmosphere in my class, we all support each other and since we all have our own specialties we help the others to fin in their gaps.
What is different about your program and MBU’s approach to business education?
MBU is quite a new school which gives us a chance to know everyone like a family. Everyone puts in so much of themselves, the staff members are very involved. It is very easy to communicate with everyone, which helps to learn more and faster; we have the opportunity to discuss with the professors and express ourselves in the small sized classrooms.
Could you describe the structure of your program?
The program is well-structured, the schedule and work-load is well balanced so we can study and revise at home after the classes. I usually come to class in the morning and early afternoon then I go home and review my notes etc.
What advice would you offer to a student who is thinking about getting a Master’s at MBU?
Beforehand, you need to clarify what you want for your future and do some research, consider both the university and its surroundings. Then do not be stressed, just give a 100% of yourself and don’t worry you will not be left alone at MBU!
Do you have an internship program?
I previously did three internships in hospitality management; but for my masters I want it to be different and specialize in marketing. Therefore, I would like to find an internship in the marketing field and then I will dedicate my thesis to marketing. I am pushing myself to cover subjects that will be helpful for my future career.
Santiago, from Colombia, relocated to Switzerland for one year; he worked in marketing for five years before he decided to take full advantage of his stay here to study an MBA at MBU. He is a very keen student who brings his corporate experience and Latin American background to his daily classes.
Could you describe your MBA program?
The MBA program of MBU has a very personalized approach, we almost have a one-to-one relation with the professors and therefore get to ask questions and interact with them. I really appreciate the corporate background of our professors which makes the learning process richer with real life examples. The two features of my MBA that are the most valuable are the quality of the programs and the small size classrooms.
Who are the participants to your MBA program?
We have a very international class with students from different cultures, with different types of personalities and backgrounds. It is enriching to discover the diverse corporate minds and points of view on life in the classroom.
What makes your MBA unique amongst business schools?
Before applying for the MBA degree at MBU I visited many business schools and I chose MBU because of its location close to the Lake Geneva, the professionalism and the corporate background of the faculty, the possibility to obtain an internationally recognized degree. MBU is also one of the rare business schools on the Riviera that has English as the language of instruction. I also find that MBU programs are very human resources oriented which is very interesting and will be greatly useful for my career. As a future general manager, MBU is teaching me how to manage people, which is crucial in the development of a company. The tuition fees are also very competitive compared to other schools.
How is the program structured?
The MBA is very well structured; during the 1st semester we learnt the basis of management and developed key business skills. I am currently starting the 2nd semester of my MBA which focuses on finance. I look forward to the 3rd semester, I still have to choose my specialization and I am considering HR or management. Our schedule has 3 hour classes which gets us used to the corporate world.
Who are your professors?
The professors at MBU are very passionate about their jobs and subjects; their aim is to contribute to the students’ development and make a change to their future. The faculty consists of successful businessmen and women who want to pass on and share their knowledge.
What advice do you have for students who are thinking about getting our MBA?
Go ahead and take the leap! I was nervous at the beginning because I had not studied for five years but it is undeniably worth it. Make sure you absorb all the knowledge from the professors and you will learn a lot thanks to their highly qualified nature and the syllabi.
